Visiting Artist

Today in my Ceramics class we had an amazing visiting artist come in to demo for us. Her name is Martina Lantin and she is an awesome functional potter. Her work centers on its function within the home and in relationship to the user rather than as a separate piece or collection. Lantin celebrates human error in art, not one of her pieces is exactly alike; they are altered and distorted creating a very personal connection to the user. I particularly liked the way she treated the bottoms of her pieces, she adds a little button of color at the bottom where none would expect there to be, this speaks to her unique sensibility and reasoning when creating pottery that coexists with the home, something she refers to as "pot psychology."
